California Elwyn is a Fountain Valley
based non-profit Community Rehabilitation Program that has provided
vocational rehabilitation, employment services, and employment
support services to people with disabilities since 1974. Programs
and services reach people throughout Orange and Los Angeles
Counties. Individualized program planning, staff flexibility, and a
focus on outcomes are the hallmarks of the service delivery system
and programs. California Elwyn not only helps people with disabilities, but our Production Center provides superior service to businesses with their packaging and assembly needs. In addition to the packaging and assembly facility in Fountain Valley, Elwyn owns and operates an Aim Mail Center® in Huntington Beach, California. Using on-site job coaches, the center provides on-going employment for six workers, while serving as an assessment/training environment for many others. The Work Services program has been in place since California Elwyn started in 1974. The Work Services program assists people with developmental disabilities in securing paid work experience and community employment. Using subcontract work clients develop and enhance employment skills needed to become employed in the community. By assisting people with disabilities become more economically independent, the Work Services program is enabling clients to fully participate in their communities as a consumer, taxpayer and overall citizen. The essential element in the Work Services program is to provide sub-contract work from local and national business and industry to provide the paid work experience needed to develop work skills for people with disabilities. California Elwyn has provided Supported Employment Services for people with severe disabilities for over 14 years. Employment Training Coaches provide on average 4000 hours of service each month. California Elwyn currently serves 165 severely disabled people in the supported employment program. These individuals receive job coaching, on the job training, retention services, and a variety of other supports, based on their individual needs. California Elwyn's South Bay Clubhouse is a day training program designed for people with cognitive disabilities who are progressing from medical rehabilitation into the community into the workplace. The Clubhouse first opened its doors in 1996 and it serves persons with traumatic brain injuries or cognitive disabilities, so they too may rejoin society as functional and contributing members. On a daily basis, it is a place for social interchange, relaxation and support. In fiscal year 2003-2004 Elwyn consumers earned nearly 1.2 million dollars in wages.
